I sought out Ketamine treatments due to cervical, cranial and laryngeal dystonia. It is painful neuromuscular disorder that causes your muscles to over fire and become rigid with spasms. Think of a charlie horse that lasts for hours and sometimes permanently. It also causes chronic migraines. I had done immense research on how Ketamine can help with pain. I sought out this clinic because of the qualifications of Dr. Hill. I am a medical malpractice attorney so I am very picky on whom I will allow to treat me. Dr. Hill is kind and extremely knowledgeable about Ketamine. I would never consider doing Ketamine without a physician who has a deep knowledge of the medication. I have received Botox injections every three months for years to inactivate the muscle spasms. The Botox works to a degree but only for about 7 weeks and I still had daily fascial contractions that distorted my face. I had trouble with my head getting stuck in painful and awkward positions even with Botox. Ketamine with Dr. Hill has substantially changed my life. My face is 100% supple and without rigidity. My traps and neck are more loose than they have been since I was a child. I find that the effects do diminish over time due to the nature of this brain disorder. I go every three months to Dr. Hill, one month before the Botox. I also found that my stress levels have dropped exponentially. It is difficult having a disorder that limits your life. Dystonia also affects your dopamine production and serotonin retake. From the first session, I felt hopeful, less stressed and without darkness. I will not lie. I don’t love the experience of Ketamine. To people who say that someone should be in there talking to you, this is not supported by the medical literature I have read as it is works best when you are alone meditating. I even quit music so I can just be with the unique experience. The clinics doing therapy are at a dose that is not therapeutic according to the literature. These sessions are a great time to meditate and listen to your brain in a way that might be a little uncomfortable but extraordinary helpful. When I learned to relax and not fight the Ketamine as Dr. Hill always urged me to do, it got much better. But I consider this medical treatment and the goal is to do what is best for my brain disorder and to support healthy mental thoughts. It is not a massage or something just fun. It is a medicine to improve issues with your brain. I also must note that I have to go to the bathroom several times a session (ugh). Dr. Hill or his staff are quickly at my side assisting me every time. There is no cure for dystonia. But this is a treatment that frankly works better than Botox and together these medications have brought me so much pain relief and a calm happy mind.
